<![CDATA[Explain Everything - EE Showcase]]>Thu, 23 May 2013 20:48:48 -0500Weebly<![CDATA[Grouping Non-Overlapping Objects]]>Wed, 15 May 2013 15:10:48 GMThttp://www.explaineverything.com/1/post/2013/05/grouping-non-overlapping-objects.htmlA user recently asked about how to group non-overlapping objects in Explain Everything. The video below shows a trick you can do using a rectangle shape that is the same color as the slide background as a grouping anchor. When you see the laser pointer, that is to signify when to triple tap to group the image to the 'invisible' rectangle behind.

<![CDATA[Klaviation: Your Flight Training Resource]]>Wed, 08 May 2013 16:02:34 GMThttp://www.explaineverything.com/1/post/2013/05/klaviation-your-flight-training-resource.htmlWill from Klaviation shared his resource of video flight lessons created with Explain Everything.
KL Aviation uses Explain Everything as a whiteboard tool to teach aviation lessons. With the ability to either draw on a blank sheet, or draw over pre-existing graphics, we can easily teach a variety of subjects. With just over 10 videos complete, and more on the way, we are looking forward to using Explain Everything long into the future.
The website describes the need that Will observed for both experienced and new pilots to be reminded of aviation basics. It's an terrific example of curating and organizing concepts that otherwise might be difficult to access. Check out this example below, and be sure to visit the site to learn more.

<![CDATA[edX - 2.01x Elements of Structures]]>Tue, 16 Apr 2013 10:47:21 GMThttp://www.explaineverything.com/1/post/2013/04/edx-201x-elements-of-structures.htmlA professor at MIT recently shared how she used Explain Everything to create drawings and animations for an intro video about the course she and her colleagues are offering via edX, a collaboration between MIT and Harvard for creating open-access courses and materials. She said that with the exception of the video footage of the man in the wheelchair and her waving at the camera, all of the other elements were created in Explain Everything and then sped up or mashed up in iMovie during post production. The music and voice-overs were also done in iMovie.

The final product is amazing (see video below) and we are thrilled to be part of their multimedia production workflow!

<![CDATA[Independent Learning using iPods in Math]]>Mon, 15 Apr 2013 11:04:31 GMThttp://www.explaineverything.com/1/post/2013/04/independent-learning-using-ipods-in-math.htmlAn educator from the UK recently shared with us an incredibly sophisticated instructional and assessment design that involves iPods, Explain Everything videos, paper and pencil rubrics, QR codes and more. What is most remarkable is how clear it is that the school's learning and assessment goals are what is guiding the design - it's not the technology that's forcing the instruction. We learned that they have done a second iteration of this teaching design that involves a website to serve as the starting point and central hub for learners. You can read more about this intervention here, and we look forward to seeing it develop!

<![CDATA[Mike's Online Biology]]>Sun, 14 Apr 2013 13:19:03 GMThttp://www.explaineverything.com/1/post/2013/04/mikes-online-biology.htmlMike Birkhead recently shared his work with us. He is a former US soldier who wanted to furhter his studies in biology and medicine after his years in service. His story is really fascinating - you can read more about it here: http://freebiologyschool.blogspot.com/p/about-this-blog.html. Below is information about his intentions for this resource that he is building, and below that is one of the many videos he has created for others to utilize. Keep up the great work, Mike!
My intentions here are two-fold. I would like to provide a biology education to those who may not have it available to them. The soldier in Iraq, the Sailor in the Persian Gulf, and the home-school child living on a farm all have two things in common: limited resources and an internet connection. I remember how frustrating it was to search in vain for information that was just out of my reach. Now, I would like to put the cookies on the bottom shelf, while at the same time increasing my own mastery of the subject.

In the future, I foresee myself doing videos like the ones you find here for all of my biology classes and then continuing to make videos for course work covered in medical school. Perhaps young people in third-world countries will be able to study hard enough and long enough to gain an understanding of the human body that will enable them to treat their sick, and comfort their suffering. This DIY medical school would be targeted toward third world nations, but would be helpful for anyone taking, or planning to take courses in the context of a medical school at any point in the future.

<![CDATA[The Bernoulli Effect]]>Thu, 21 Mar 2013 16:59:14 GMThttp://www.explaineverything.com/1/post/2013/03/the-bernoulli-effect.htmlJason from CSCC in Ohio created this amazing video using a combination of Explain Everything, GarageBand, and Audio Memos on the iPad. He also did some post-production in Audacity and Camtasia for Windows. He says, "We're hoping to leverage EE as the core development tool for a new series of "short learning objects" to enhance our college distance learning content at Columbus State Community College. So thanks for making such a powerful and versatile app!"

Thank you for making such a compelling video about fluid dynamics!

<![CDATA[EE Tutorial for Teachers]]>Mon, 11 Mar 2013 21:18:18 GMThttp://www.explaineverything.com/1/post/2013/03/ee-tutorial-for-teachers.htmlA science teacher at a school in New York City has created an Explain Everything tutorial for teachers which she has shared with us. Stephanie Castle's YouTube channel is full of great examples and ideas: http://www.youtube.com/user/SCScienceVidHer goal is to use Explain everything as a tool to create standard specific video tutorials for students in the IB Biology course. In addition, she shares with other teachers how easy it is for them to use her favorite apps for assessment in their classrooms.

<![CDATA[New Explain Everything 2.0 Feature Video]]>Sun, 24 Feb 2013 20:59:27 GMThttp://www.explaineverything.com/1/post/2013/02/new-explain-everything-20-feature-video.htmlWe have placed a new feature video on the Explain Everything home page. Special thanks to Mark (@newschooltech) from New School Technology for helping us with the video.

Don't think we're done enhancing and adding to Explain Everything! We consolidated all of these updates into Version 2.0 because we knew that we needed a user interface update in order to allow the application to continue to grow.

Here are some of the new features in EE 2.0: Insert & Annotate Video, Background and Color Templates, Timeline Scrubber, Inspector Tool (Copy, Paste, Duplicate, Lock, Set Background), Google Drive Integration, Sources Panel, and Merge Projects.

Stay tuned for future updates and feel free to drop us a line if you have any ideas or requests! All of the updates in Explain Everything 2.0 were based on user feedback!
