We are working on some companion apps for Explain Everything to let you do certain actions with a Mac OS X (10.7 or higher) computer. Please note: these apps are NOT Explain Everything for mac

EE Compressor for Mac OS X ($14.99 - available now in the Mac App Store)

Picture
This highly requested specialty app was a little bit difficult to create hence the cost.  The EE Compressor will allow you to create MP4/MOV files from .XPL Project files that you can access from your laptop or desktop. Multiple files can be queued for compression and you can do other work on your computer while movie file creation is in progress.  The compression of video is much faster (4x +) than the iPad because of faster processors on more powerful machines. This app will not allow you to edit  projects.

Getting .XPL Files from your iPad to your Laptop or Desktop

There are a few ways to get .XPL files from your iPad to your Mac OS X computer.

Email

If the project size does not exceed your email provider's file size limit, you can export the XPL project file via email and then open the attachment on your computer.

iTunes File Sharing

Connect your iPad to a computer using a wired connection (File Sharing does not work over WiFi sync). Then. click on your iPad in the Devices menu. Click on the Apps tab and scroll down to the File Sharing Section. Click on Explain Everything, select the project(s) and click the 'Save To' button (see image below).

Dropbox - Box - Evernote - WebDAV

Export your XPL files to one of the many cloud-based options that Explain Everything integrates with. After exporting, you can access these services from a desktop or laptop computer and then open the files in the EE Player.

EE Player for Mac OS X (Free - available now in the Mac App Store)

Picture
This free app for Mac OS X (Snow Leopard, Lion, Mountain Lion, etc.) allows you to play Explain Everything projects from the source .XPL file on your laptop or desktop. The app works in a similar manner to Quicktime Player for Mac. Double click an .XPL file and the player will automatically open. If you launch the player first, go to File -> Open to browse for files.

This app is helpful for quickly sharing large numbers of projects to a class or group from a computer without needing everyone to compress their files. A group of individuals can upload their XPL files to a central location and then the files can be played back from a single computer.

Access project files from your iPad using the guidelies posted above for the EE Compressor.
